We must realize that God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent. Therefore, it’s not wise to question His judgement or acts because He sees the future and He knows the directions everyone will take, even every good and bad decision we will ever make. That’s why He tells us to trust Him and acknowledge Him in all our ways so He can direct our paths (Proverbs 3:5-6). Furthermore, God knows the plans He has for us because He knew of them before we were born (Jeremiah 1:5) and He said the steps of a good man are ordered by Him (Psalm 37:23). Then, Jeremiah 10:23 lets us know that it’s not in man to direct his steps, Proverbs 12:2 lets us know that a good man obtaineth favor.
Why would anyone want to question God? The enemy, starting from Adam and Eve, has deceived us into thinking that it is okay. But when we question God it shows a lack of trust, it increases doubt, which then leads to murmuring and complaining. When we doubt, mistrust and lose confidence in God, His answer to us is in Jeremiah 10:10-14 and Job 38:1-39. In Jeremiah 10:10-14, He reminds us that He is the true and living God, an everlasting King, and at His wrath the earth will tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide in His indignation. In verse 14 He allows us the privilege of seeing that every man is stupid, brutish or primitive in His knowledge; so who are we to question Him who made us in His image and likeness(Genesis 1:26). In looking at Luke 10:19, we see God did not give us the power nor authority to question Him, that power given to us is to put the enemy down, not God. Then in Job 38, after Job questioned God, He answered and said, Who is it that questions my wisdom with such ignorant words? So brace yourself because He has some questions of His own. The first of them was, where were you when God laid the foundations of the earth and everything else?
Questioning God brings out doubts and fears. In Isaiah 43, God tells us not to fear because He has redeemed us and calls us by name. So, we belong to Him and he will be with us through everything because he is our God and Savior. Job 38:17 tells us that we were created for His glory and not His shame. So, questioning Him allows the devil to gloat because he succeeded in planting doubt. Still, we must remember that in Hebrews 13:5-6 God promises never to leave us nor forsake us.
Don’t allow disappointments, hurt, pain, doubt and fear to question God’s call. Just remember that He is the God of the universe who is sovereign, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent and He is our Creator who is reliable and can be trusted.
We should always be praising and thanking God instead of questioning.
